This page is provided by the historic Ebony Showcase Theatre and Cultural Arts Workshop, a non profit organization that was founded in 1950 by Producers, Nick and Edna Stewart. Nick Stewart was a performer who is remembered as the character Lightnin' on the Amos and Andy TV show, the voice of Brer Bear in the animated Disney movie Song of the South, on the Splash Mountain ride at Disneyland, and other movies and televison shows. Many performers of all races were showcased on the Ebony Showcase stage; many of these performers were or later became famous. The historic buildings that housed the theater were demolished by the Los Angeles Community Redevelopment Agency in the mid and late 1990s. Rather than shut down and give up, the Ebony Showcase Theatre moved to the internet where it continues to provide entertainment, services, and information on a variety of issues.
